| Ellory Eierman –River Tours, Hood Canal Ecology and Nature Tours and our impact on the environment. Alaska 'born and bred', in Kodiak, Alaska, Ellory moved to Washington State with her family when she was 3 years old. Though she has lived most of her life here, she has spent considerable time traveling back to Alaska to attend college and to spend time with family there. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology from the University of Alaska/Southeast, in Juneau. Ellory has had a passion for the water and for nature all of her life, but it was in Alaska that she really discovered her love for hiking, snowboarding, photography, and especially kayaking. Alaska was a prime location for her because she had easy access to some of the best hiking trails around and she was able to kayak among icebergs from the Mendenhall Glacier, Humpback whales, and the majestic, Stellar Sea Lions. She learned the importance of minimizing the footprint you leave on the area you are travelling through. The 'Leave no trace' rule is her mantra in daily life. She can also teach you how to avoid disturbing marine mammals and other wildlife, while still enjoying their presence and beauty. Ellory knows the importance of being aware of your surroundings and is very versed in appropriate responses if you should happen upon potentially dangerous animals, such as bears and cougars, in the wild. She is looking forward to sharing her knowledge of the land and sea with you! |
